چکیده

B ecker muscular dystrophy (BMD) is an X linked mutation of the dystrophin gene characterised by skeletal muscle dystrophy and progressive heart failure which frequently leads to a fatal outcome. Cardiac involvement is not accurately predicted by gene mutation and may occur in patients without muscle weakness. Consequently, systematic cardiac examinations are required. Tissue Doppler echocardiography (TDE) allows accurate quantification of regional myocardial function and may be a reliable method for early detection of myocardial dysfunction in BMD.

Assessment of left ventricular regional function in affected and carrier dogs with duchenne muscular dystrophy using speckle tracking echocardiography

BACKGROUND Two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) is a relatively new method to detect regional myocardial dysfunction. To assess left ventricular (LV) regional myocardial dysfunction using STE in Duchenne muscular dystrophy model dogs (CXMD(J)) without overt clinical signs of heart failure. METHODS Six affected dogs, 8 carrier dogs with CXMD(J), and 8 control dogs were used....

Myocardial delayed enhancement by magnetic resonance imaging in patients with muscular dystrophy.

OBJECTIVES This study sought to analyze whether cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) can detect and quantify myocardial damage in the early stages of cardiomyopathy in muscular dystrophies (MD). BACKGROUND Muscular dystrophy is a genetic disease that involves skeletal and cardiac tissues of humans. Cardiomyopathy is common, and death secondary to cardiac or respiratory diseases occurs earl...

Primary myocardial dysfunction in autosomal dominant EDMD. A tissue doppler and cardiovascular magnetic resonance study.

BACKGROUND Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy is a genetically heterogeneous form of muscular dystrophy. One form is inherited in an X-linked fashion and is secondary to mutations in the gene encoding the nuclear protein emerin. A more common variant is inherited in an autosomal dominant way (EDMD2) due to mutations affecting the nuclear lamina protein lamin A/C. Typical features of both conditi...

The Diagnostic Value of Utrophin in Mild Dystrophinopathy (Becker Muscular Dystrophy)

Background and Objective: Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) is a subtype of dystrophinopathies and designated as “mild form of dystrophinopathy”. The frequency rate of the disease is 1:18000 to 1:30000 in different populations and the symptoms are presented at about 8-9 years of age. The diagnostic panel composed of Serum Ceratin Kinase (SCK) measurement, Electromyography (EMG), and as a major...

The influence of Asthma on Right Ventricular Systolic and Diastolic Function in Children according to Tissue Doppler Echocardiography

Introduction:Asthma is the most common chronic inflammatory condition affecting the lower airways among children. Asthma may influence right ventricular (RV) function and patients may develop right ventricular hypertrophy, pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale. The main objective of this study is to determine RV dysfunction in asymptomatic asthmatic children as detected by ti...
